You know how strong-smelling foods placed in the refrigerator without first covering them can pass on their odor to other foods? I'm wondering if it works the same way with certain diaper bag items and chewing gum. The other day I realized I lost my pack of gum and couldn't a find it. I don't remember how long it had been missing. A day or two after that realization I found an old, used diaper I had forgotten to throw away. It had obviously been fermenting for a couple of days. I pulled it out to throw it away and found my pack of gum sitting next to it. I'm in a bit of a penny pinch right now and so I wondered to myself if the smell of the wrapped diaper had transferred to my gum and if I could stand to throw away half a pack of my second favorite flavor. I bought a new pack. However, the first one is still sitting on my counter, malevolently daring me to continue being a skinflint and try a piece to see if it's still usable. I (obviously) hesitate because I don't think I would be a fan of poopymint flavor. All I seem able to do is hope that the rational portion of my brain will step up and throw the gum away.
