Just when I thought the parade of strange names was done it turns out that I have access to more. The newest name on my list: Firl. I'd never heard of it, either. She's a sweet lady about the age of my grandparents. Eric and I had fun discussing how her parents came up with the name.
They were into flags and thought unfurl could be made into a name.
Their names were Fifi and Earl.
Because there were no ultrasounds they did know her gender. When she was born her dad yelled, "Another freakin' girl?!?"
That last was our favorite. Other names deserve honorable mention:
Hortense
Grunhilde
